Daniel J. Ullyot, M.D., CTAF Vice Chair

Dan Ullyot, Vice Chair of the CTAF Panel, is a Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon whose professional career was spent in equal proportions in academic surgery and later in private practice. He was Professor of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, and Director of Cardiac Surgery at Mills-Peninsula Hospital, Burlingame, CA.

He was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduated from Harvard College (BA 1958) and from the University of Minnesota (MD 1963), completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in general surgery (both Harvard Services, Boston City Hospital), and his Thoracic Surgical Training at UCSF. He was a research fellow at the Cardiovascular Research Institute just prior to joining the surgical faculty at UCSF in 1971.

He served as President of the American College of Cardiology (1993 - 1994) and President of the Western Thoracic Surgical Association (1996 - 1997), and is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and the San Francisco Surgical Society.

Dr. Ullyot retired from clinical practice in 2001, and presently serves on several boards, is a reviewer for several medical and surgical journals and consults on health policy and clinical quality issues.
