This topic was reviewed by the California Technology Assessment Forum on June 21, 2006. It was recommended that use of the X-Stop interspinous process distractor device meets CTAF criteria when used in the following patient population: Age greater than fifty years old; moderate impairment of physican function; symptomatic lumbar spinal stenosis at no more than two levels; relief of symptoms with flexion of the spine; failed non-operative care over a period of at least six months. Exclusion criteria include: Prior spinal fusion; osteoporosis or metabolic bone disease; spinal tumor or infection; morbid obesity. |
